What is a Root Canal?
Your natural teeth have many layers. The outer covering, or enamel, is the hard shell of the tooth that is visible to you when you open your mouth. The inside of your tooth consists of the dentin and pulp. When the pulp becomes infected, a root canal is needed. A root canal removes the bacteria and infection, cleans and disinfects the inside of the tooth, and is completed when the tooth is filled and sealed. It is important to visit our office at the first sign of tooth discomfort. The longer a root canal is delayed, the closer a patient becomes to needing a tooth extraction or experiencing additional health issues.

Years ago, patients associated root canals with discomfort and difficult procedures. Due to the advancements in dentistry, along with the improvements in dental technology, a root canal can now be compared to a more involved filling. The largest difference is the length of the procedure.
