Do Any of These Sound Familiar?

A damaged or painful tooth affects more than your mouth. It can make eating, sleeping, and getting through your day harder than it should be. The good news is that removing the problem tooth often brings fast relief and a clear path forward.
  • Chewing on one side to avoid pain
  • Embarrassed by a broken tooth
  • Throbbing pain that won't go away
  • Hiding your smile around others
  • Swelling that keeps coming back
  • Losing sleep over tooth pain
  • If any of these feel familiar, you are not alone. Relief is often simpler and closer than you think.

The Cost of Putting It Off

  • Infection Can Spread

Bacteria from a damaged tooth can move into nearby teeth and gum tissue.

  • Simple Becomes Surgical

A routine removal can turn into a more involved surgical visit over time.

  • Costs Add Up Fast

Delaying treatment often means more visits and higher costs down the road.

  • Daily Pain Wears You Down

Ongoing discomfort affects your sleep, your meals, and your mood every day.

  • Fewer Choices Remain Later

Acting early keeps more tooth replacement options open for your future smile.

  • Your Jaw Pays the Price

Lingering infection and damage can weaken the bone that supports your teeth.

  • Acting now means a simpler treatment and a faster, more comfortable recovery.

What a Tooth Extraction Really Involves

A tooth extraction is the safe removal of a tooth that can no longer be saved by a filling, crown, or root canal (treatment to save an infected tooth). Some teeth come out in a single, simple visit, while others, like those impacted (trapped below the gumline), need a more careful surgical approach. Either way, the goal is to relieve pain and protect the teeth and bone nearby.

Before removing any tooth, we plan carefully using detailed digital imaging that shows the exact position of roots, nerves, and bone. We use that information here at Parkside Dental Care to keep treatment precise and comfortable for your needs. For patients considering tooth extractions in Montgomery, AL, this planning means a smoother visit and a clearer sense of what comes next.

  • Local anesthesia keeps the area fully numb
  • Most simple extractions take about thirty minutes
  • Sedation options are available for nervous patients
  • Transformations That Last

Watch real patients share how their dental journey restored not just their smiles, but their quality of life. These personal stories capture the relief and joy that come with comprehensive, caring treatment.

Is a Tooth Extraction Right for You?

You may be asking whether your tooth really needs to come out or if something else could save it. Extractions help a wide range of patients, from those with deep decay to people getting ready for a new tooth replacement. The right fit is often broader than expected.
  • Have a tooth that is badly decayed, cracked, or causing constant pain
  • Are dealing with a damaged tooth that fillings or crowns can no longer fix
  • Want lasting relief from a problem tooth that keeps flaring up
  • Have been told a tooth is impacted or beyond saving
  • Are preparing for a new tooth replacement and need room created first
  • Not Sure If You Qualify?

Feeling unsure is completely normal, and you do not have to decide alone. A consultation lets us look closely and tell you whether a tooth extraction is the right choice for your smile and your goals.

What to Expect During Your Tooth Extraction

If the idea of having a tooth removed makes you nervous, you are in good company, and our patients often tell us the visit was far easier than they imagined. Every step is built around keeping you calm, comfortable, and informed.
    1

    Consultation and Imaging

Your visit begins with a gentle exam and detailed digital imaging, which lets us see the full position of the tooth, its roots, and the bone around it. We talk through what we find in plain language and answer your questions. By the end, you will understand exactly why removal is recommended and what your options look like.

    2

    Personalized Planning

Next, we build a plan made just for you. We review your health history, discuss sedation choices like nitrous oxide (laughing gas) or oral sedation, and decide which keeps you most at ease. This planning step means there are no surprises on the day of treatment, just a clear and calm path you have already agreed to.

    3

    Gentle Numbing and Comfort

On treatment day, we make sure you are fully comfortable before anything begins. The area is completely numbed, and any sedation you chose helps you relax. Most patients feel only gentle pressure, not discomfort. We work at a pace that feels right for you, checking in often so you stay in control from start to finish.

    4

    Careful Removal

With the area numb and you relaxed, we ease the tooth out gently. For a tooth that is impacted or broken below the gumline, we use a small, precise approach to protect the surrounding tissue. The whole step is usually quicker than expected, and we keep you informed and at ease the entire time.

    5

    Healing and Next Steps

Once the tooth is out, we clean the area, place gauze to help a protective clot form, and share simple aftercare guidance. We will talk about tooth replacement options if you need them, so you leave with a clear plan. Most patients head home feeling relieved and ready to rest comfortably.

Ready to Find Relief and Move Forward?

    Recovering From a Tooth Extraction

Most patients are surprised by how smooth recovery feels after a tooth extraction, with discomfort that is mild and short-lived. We are here to support you at every stage, just a phone call away if you need us.

    First 24-48 Hours

In the first day or two, expect some mild swelling and tenderness around the area, which is completely normal. Rest, stick to soft foods, and avoid straws so the healing clot stays in place. Most patients find that a little ice and over-the-counter pain relief keeps them comfortable as they settle in.

    First Week

Over the next several days, any swelling fades and you will feel more like yourself with each passing day. Soft foods, gentle rinses, and good rest help things along nicely. By the end of the week, most patients are back to their normal routine and feeling great.

Every patient heals a little differently, so your timeline may be shorter or longer than average. We will give you a clear, personalized aftercare plan and stay easy to reach whenever a question comes up.

Payment Flexibility That Eases Treatment Planning

We offer payment options available to help reduce the stress of larger treatment plans and unexpected care. You can explore monthly payments, use major credit cards, or ask about in-house membership and discount plan options if you do not have insurance.

CareCredit, a trusted healthcare financing option, offers convenient payment plans to fit your budget. Invest in your oral health with confidence.

    Tooth Extraction FAQs

Deciding to have a tooth removed can bring up plenty of questions, and that is exactly how it should be. Below are honest answers to what patients ask us most about tooth extractions in Montgomery, AL. If something is still unclear, we are happy to help.

Does getting a tooth pulled hurt?

This is the question we hear most, and the answer brings real relief. Before we begin, the area is fully numbed, so you feel pressure at most, never sharp pain. For added comfort, sedation options are available to help you stay completely relaxed throughout your visit.
Most simple extractions are finished in about thirty minutes, sometimes less. Teeth that are impacted or broken below the gumline can take a little longer because they call for a more careful approach. We will give you a clear time estimate during your consultation.
Sedation is never required, but it is there if you want it. We offer two comfort options: nitrous oxide (laughing gas), which wears off quickly, and oral sedation, a pill that brings deeper relaxation. We will help you choose based on your comfort and the treatment ahead.
Soft foods are your best friend for the first few days. Think yogurt, smoothies without a straw, mashed potatoes, and soup that is not too hot. As healing moves along, you can slowly add firmer foods back in, usually within a week for most patients.
Dry socket happens when the protective clot over the healing site comes loose too early. You can lower the risk by avoiding straws, skipping smoking, and not rinsing forcefully for the first day or two. Following the simple aftercare steps we provide keeps healing on track.
It depends on the comfort option you choose. After nitrous oxide (laughing gas), most patients feel clear-headed and can drive themselves. If you select oral sedation, plan to bring someone along, since the effects linger for a few hours. We will confirm this with you beforehand.
Putting off a needed extraction rarely helps. A problem tooth can lead to spreading infection, more discomfort, and treatment that becomes more involved over time. Acting sooner usually means a simpler visit, an easier recovery, and more replacement options down the road.
It can, which is why planning ahead matters. When a tooth is gone, nearby teeth may slowly shift and the jawbone can weaken without regular stimulation. We will walk you through tooth replacement options that fill the space, so your smile stays balanced and complete.
Extractions are one of the most common and well-understood treatments in dentistry. We use detailed digital imaging to plan carefully and protect the nerves and bone around the tooth. Combined with modern numbing and sedation, this makes your visit both safe and comfortable.
Most patients return to work or daily activities within a day or two, especially after a simple removal. You will want to take it easy at first and stick to soft foods, but full healing of the area follows steadily over the next week or so.

Dr Loveless did a masterful job with my dental implants. He first did four implants for a hybrid plate for my lower teeth and then most recently did a single implant to replace a tooth in my upper teeth. The implant looks and feels great!
