Are Dental Implants Right For Me?

Are Dental Implants Right For Me?

When a patient experiences severe decay or a dental emergency, I do everything Ican to save the natural tooth, but unfortunately, that is not always possible. I know that losing a tooth can be upsetting, and I like to have a tooth replacement option ready for when the time is right. One option that I usually recommend to patients is a dental implant. While dental implants are a fantastic tooth replacement option and a popular choice for many of my patients, not everyone is a candidate. Read on to learn more about dental implants and to see if you would be a candidate to receive this treatment.

Am I a Candidate for Dental Implants?

When a patient needs a tooth replacement, my first recommendation is always a dental implant. Dental implants are a state-of-the-art treatment that provides a permanent base for replacement teeth. Over time, the prosthesis fuses with the jawbone to create a permanent solution. Dental implants are beneficial over other methods because they look, act, and feel like natural teeth. They can be used to replace one tooth, multiple teeth, or all of the teeth. While this treatment offers many benefits and is popular among many patients, it is not an ideal treatment for all. We first examine the state of your oral and overall health to determine eligibility. Other factors include:

Patience

Although dental implants are a wonderful tooth replacement option and have changed the lives of many of my patients, it is important to note that it is a lengthy process from start to finish. The treatment itself consists of multiple parts with healing time needed between appointments and typically lasts for many months.

No Outstanding Medical Conditions

Unfortunately, patients with certain medical conditions or those who are taking certain medications will not be eligible for dental implants. This can include patients who are receiving cancer treatment, are on steroid medications, and patients with diabetes. After reviewing your medical history, my team will determine the best treatment plan for your needs.
