No Matter How Careful You Are, You Can End Up With A Cavity

We know it takes time and effort to keep your teeth healthy. You brush and floss daily and keep up with your routine dental checkups. You might even avoid sugary foods and beverages to prevent tooth decay. Sometimes, however, no matter how careful you are, you can end up with a cavity. Some people are more susceptible to cavities because of their habits or even because of genetics. There is a treatment that can give your dental health an added level of protection so you don’t have to worry if we’ll find a cavity at your next visit. Read on to find out more.

Disruptions in dental hygiene, bacteria in the mouth, or even your family history play a part in developing cavities. The good news, however, is that fluoride treatments can protect your teeth in a number of ways, including:

  • Strengthening and remineralizing weakened tooth enamel, making your teeth less vulnerable to bacteria and cavities
  • Helping the body use minerals like calcium and phosphate, which your teeth absorb, to repair weakened tooth enamel
  • Reducing the development of the harmful bacteria that cause cavities.

The fluoride we use here at the office is of a higher concentration than your toothpaste or mouthwash and takes just a few minutes to apply. After your routine cleaning, we brush the fluoride solution onto the surface of your teeth. Following the treatment, we advise you not to rinse, eat, or drink for at least 30 minutes. This gives your teeth time to absorb the fluoride. Depending on your specific dental needs, we may recommend a fluoride treatment once, twice, or even three times a year.

If you would like more information on how fluoride treatments can benefit your dental health and help you avoid future dental work, please feel free to contact our Montgomery office or speak with us at your next visit.
