Do You Have Anxiety About Coming To Our Practice?
Do you feel stress before coming in for a dental visit? Do you feel like putting off your scheduled appointment due to anxiety? You’re not alone. Many patients have dental phobia, or a fear of the dentist. Some people feel so much anxiety that they avoid going to the dentist altogether and put their dental health at risk. We want you to feel as comfortable as possible when you visit our office and have a couple different solutions to help you overcome your anxiety and fear. Read more to find out how we can help.
Sedation dentistry allows us to perform treatments on patients who experience high levels of stress and anxiety leading up to and during their dental appointments. Patients who have had a traumatic dental experience in the past, have a sensitive gag reflex, or find the sounds and smells of the dental office unbearable often have intense feelings around having their teeth or mouth worked on.
Fortunately, we have two forms of sedation dentistry that allow our patients to comfortably relax during their visits so they can get the necessary care to keep their teeth healthy.
- Oral Sedation (or conscious sedation): the patient takes a pill prior to coming in for their appointment. The sedative allows the patient to relax, but they stay fully conscious during the appointment. They can answer questions during treatment, but won’t remember any details. The patient will feel drowsy, but won’t go to sleep.
- Nitrous Oxide: the patient breathes in a nitrogen-oxygen mixture through a mask, which keeps them relaxed throughout the appointment. As soon as the mask comes off, the sedation wears off.
Both of these forms of sedation dentistry are safe and effective and will help put you at ease during your visit. There’s no need to avoid important treatments anymore. Please let us know if you would like to consider one of these sedation techniques at your next visit to our Montgomery office and we’ll be happy to discuss your options with you.
